Gingerbread Simple Syrup

This gingerbread simple syrup is an easy to make flavored sweetener. It goes great in drinks and on baked goods.

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Measuring Cup
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Wooden Spoons
  • Pyrex or Mason Jar

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon Allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon Cloves
  • teaspoon Nutmeg

Instructions
 

  • Pour 1 cup of water and 1 cup of brown sugar into the pot.
  • Measure and pour 1 teaspoon ginger and cinnamon into the pot.
  • Measure and pour ¼ teaspoon allspice and cloves into the pot.
  • Measure and pour ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg into the pot.
  • Turn the stovetop on medium heat and simmer the mixture for 10 minutes.
  • Stir it often while it is heating.
  • Take the pot off of the heat and pour it into the jar or pyrex.
  • Chill it in the fridge for 1 - 2 hours before using.

Notes

Tips
  • Stir it often while it heats to be sure to prevent any burning to the bottom of the pot.
  • Make sure to let it sit and cool for 1 - 2 hours before using it to give it time to thicken up.
Storing
  • It should be stored in the refrigerator for 2 - 4 weeks as long as it's in a jar with a lid or other air tight container.
  • If you need to keep it for longer than 2 - 4 weeks, it can be frozen.  An ice cube tray works well for freezing.
