About

Hey there and welcome! We are Kristin and Justin and we are the drink makers, recipe developers and photographers behind Occasional Cocktails.

Justin has spent well over a decade as a bartender in various different settings from restaurant chains, to beachside bars. Given his expertise with mixology, he always enjoyed mixing up new and old favorites at home as well.

Over the years, whenever we would have a nightcap or cocktails with dinner, Justin always mixed them up for us since he knew exactly what he was doing.

In 2020, we both started trying out a fun new drink each week for a board game date night. During this time, I (Kristin) started to learn from Justin the in’s and out’s of garnishes, and the different methods of mixing up cocktails.

We had so much fun mixing up cocktails together and we wanted to share this information to help others who might want to try something new or something more tried and true at home. Thus, occasional cocktails was launched.

What You’ll Find on Occasional Cocktails

  • Traditional cocktail recipes: learn how to mix up some of the more tried and true cocktail recipes such as: a margarita, a whiskey sour or a cosmopolitan.
  • Cocktail Tips and Trips: easily master more advanced mixology such as elaborate garnishes, glass rimming and layering without getting overwhelmed or spending boatloads of time.
  • No fuss, simple instructions: all of our recipes are written in easy to follow steps and we try to cut through any mixology jargon so that you don’t have to spend half your time trying to figure out what the heck the difference between Cointreau and Triple Sec is.

More About Occasional Cocktails

What are the best cocktails for beginners to start with?

If you are just getting started with your first cocktail or two, stick with simple two ingredient highballs such as: Tequila and Sprite or Rum and Coke.

Do I need fancy cocktail glasses?

Yes, and no. Cocktail glasses are designed to hold different amounts of liquid and to display the cocktail – both for smell, taste and visuals – to highlight each drink in a different way. However, if you are in a pinch, if the drink fits in a glass, it can work.

I have another question, how can I contact you?
