Tequila and Sprite make a delicious combination. The light bite of tequila combined with the lemon-lime fizz of sprite is an easy and refreshing drink. And, with just 2 ingredients, you can stir this up in under 2 minutes.
What is a Tequila and Sprite?
A tequila and sprite is an easy 2 ingredient cocktail – which (not surprisingly) is made of sprite and tequila. The lemon-lime bite of Sprite and crisp flavor of tequila is so close to a classic margarita. Plus, it’s super quick to make with no extra ingredients. You don’t have to worry about Triple Sec, simple syrup, or any other ingredients.
If you’re looking for a super simple margarita recipe, you can also try a Tequila and Mountain Dew which has a similar flavor (in fact there are many sodas that make great tequila mixers).
Sprite is such a great cocktail mixer. Some other great drinks with Sprite are Gin and Sprite, Rum and Sprite, whiskey sprite and Vodka and Sprite.
This cocktail goes especially well with spicy and flavorful foods. Consider making a full pitcher of this recipe and serve it on your next Taco Tuesday!
Ingredients
- Tequila – we like to use a silver tequila and go for a mid to top shelf like 1800 or Patron.
- Sprite – we like to use sprite zero to cut down on sugar and calories.
- Ice
- Lemon Wedge (optional garnish)
For quantities, see recipe card below.
Instructions
Not only does this cocktail taste great but it’s incredibly simple to make. Use these easy to follow instructions to mix up your own.
Step One
Take a highball glass and fill it with ice.
Step Two
Pour 2 oz of a high quality tequila into the same glass.
Step Three
Add in 4 oz of Sprite or Sprite Zero.
Step Four
Take your bar spoon and stir your drink.
Step Five
Rim your glass with a lemon wedge and enjoy!
Variations
- Try different Sprite – you can use any type of Sprite you like: regular, diet, sprite zero. Or, even a flavored Sprite like: Sprite cranberry, Sprite Cherry or Sprite Lymonade.
- Change up the Tequila – a silver tequila really works best in this drink, but if you prefer a gold or reposado you can certainly use one of those instead.
- Different Garnish – we like a lemon wedge, but you can use a lime wedge instead. Also, you can try a wheel or twist of either if you want to change up the look of the drink.
Recipe Tips
- Make a large batch – you can easily scale this recipe up to make a big batch. Just multiply the ingredients by 2, 3 or more.
- Don’t shake – instead of shaking this in a shaker to mix it make sure to use a bar spoon and stir it so the Sprite doesn’t fizz everywhere. Alternatively, you can gently toss it from shaker to glass to mix it.
- Don’t make ahead – if you try making this ahead, the Sprite is likely to go flat. So, just mix this up whenever you are ready to get to drinking.
