    Jump to Recipe

Need a flavorful cocktail you sit back, sip, and relax? The Bourbon Sidecar brings a brand new flavor profile to an already delicious classic.

    What is a Bourbon Sidecar?

A Bourbon Sidecar is a combination of bourbon, Cointreau (or orange liqueur), lemon juice, and simple syrup. It’s use of the subtle orange flavoring gives it a unique distinction from a Sours Cocktail, like an Amaretto Sour or Whiskey Sour, like you typically get with lemon juice and simple syrup.

    What is a Sidecar?

The name Sidecar comes from the WWI era after the sidecar attachment on motorcycles that were very popular at the time. Where the drink originates is really up for debate. There are multiple sources that lay claim to the recipe. However the first time it was recorded in writing was in 1922 in Harry’s ABC of Mixing Cocktails and Cocktails and How to Mix Them.

    How to make this drink:

The worst part of making this drink is not eating or drinking the ingredients while you mix it!

    • Jigger (we use the jigger and shaker from this set)
    • Cocktail Mixer
    • Hawthorne Strainer

    Step One

Stick a martini glass in the freezer to chill it while mixing your drink

    Step Two

Fill a cocktail shaker about ¾ of the way full of ice

    Step Three

Add Bourbon, Cointreau, Lemon juice, and Simple syrup to the cocktail shaker

    Step Four

Return the lid to the cocktail shaker and shake until the outside of the shaker ices over (about 30ish seconds or so)

    Step Five

Pull your chilled martini glass from the freezer

    Step Six

Pour your cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer into the martini glass

    Step Seven

Place a lemon or orange peel twist in your cocktail as a flavorful garnish and enjoy!
