What is a Water Moccasin Shot?

A water moccasin shot is a combination of peach schnapps, whiskey, triple sec and sweet and sour mix. It is yellow and color and tastes like the syrup in canned peaches.

Peach schnapps is a sweet clear color in the core. And as you may guess by its name it has a strong Peach flavor.

Triple Sec is a clear color decor as well. It has an orange flavor. It can range anywhere from 20 to 40% alcohol by volume.

Sweet and sour mix is typically slightly yellow in color and it is made of lemon or lime juice and simple syrup. So it has a tangy or sour citrus flavor combined with a sweet sugar flavor. You can make your own or buy it premade.

Whiskey comes in many variations including Irish whiskey, Tennessee whiskey, rye whiskey and Canadian whiskey to name a few. Though the flavor profile of whiskey does change depending on the variation you use the main difference in the variations are the type of grain used as well as the type of barrels in the amount of time that they’re aged.

In general whiskey tends to have a light sort of sweet caramel flavor with some smoke and spice and fruit mixed in. You can use any type of whiskey for this drink just choose your favorite one.

Variations

Though the shot is pretty standard, there are a few variations you can make.

  • Type of whiskey used. The type of whiskey that you use will change the flavor of the shot depending on the flavor profile of the whiskey. If you want a sweet or smoother shot you might try Jameson or bourbon if you like a little spicier you might try something like a rye whiskey.
  • Triple Sec substitute. Go triple Sec is the best orange liqueur to use in this shot there are other orange liqueurs that you can use if you don’t have that on hand. You could substitute things like a Grand Marnier or Cointreau for the triple sec.
  • Make it a cocktail. This shot is an easy sweet and sour sipper if you simply multiply the ingredients by two and throw it in a rock’s glass with some ice.

Occasions to make this shot

This shot has a flavor profile that most people will like. It’s also easy to make so it works well for large gatherings. Though the possibilities are endless for one to make this shot, here are a few suggestions:

Start by making sure that you have your Peach schnapps, whiskey, triple sec, sweet and sour mix, jigger, Hawthorne strainer, shot glass and cocktail shaker ready to go.
