This easy rum and sprite is a quick two ingredient cocktail that is refreshing in flavor. The refreshingly smooth taste of a high quality rum and the lemon-lime bite of Sprite makes such a perfect cocktail. Plus, you can stir it together in 2 minutes or less.
What is a Rum and Sprite?
A rum and sprite is exactly what it sounds like – a combination of sprite and rum. Typically a white rum is used, but you can use a different type if you prefer.
This cocktail is lightly fizzy and has a smooth bite mingled with the lemon-lime citrus flavors of the sweet soda. It is refreshing and easy to make.
If Rum isn’t your favorite, there are several other Sprite based cocktails. Some of our favorites are the Vodka and Sprite, Gin and Sprite, fireball sprite and Tequila and Sprite.
This recipe is one of the quickest and easiest drinks you can make. That makes it the perfect companion for any meal and occasion. Add this to your weekend plans or kick back at the end of a long work day.
Ingredients
- Rum – we like to use a white rum that is mid or top shelf like Bacardi.
- Sprite – we like to use Sprite zero to cut down on sugar content.
- Ice
- Lemon Wedge (optional garnish)
For quantities, check the recipe card below.
Instructions
This cocktail is super simple to make. Check out the quick steps below.
Step One
Put ice in your highball glass.
Step Two
Pour in 2 oz of your favorite white rum.
Step Three
Top off the glass with 4 oz of Sprite or Sprite Zero.
Step Four
Mix well with a bar spoon. Garnish your glass with a lemon wedge and enjoy!
Variations
- Different rum – instead of white rum use a coconut rum, spiced rum or even dark rum.
- Use another Sprite – we like to use Sprite Zero, but you can use any kind of sprite like regular or diet. Or, you can use a flavored Sprite like Cherry or Cranberry.
- Add another garnish – you can use a lime wedge instead of lemon. Or, try out a wheel or twist instead of a wedge.
Mixing Tips
- Keep the ratios right – the 2:1 Sprite to rum ratio is the best for optimal flavor. But you can certainly scale this recipe up by doubling or tripling each ingredient to make a big batch.
- Make just in time – making this in advance doesn’t work well because the Sprite will go flat. So, this is better to not make in advance.
- Don’t shake – with the amount of soda in this drink, you don’t want to shake it to mix it. Instead use a bar spoon and stir it.
