What’s In A Cherry Vodka Sour?

Vodka sours super easy to make. It only has a couple of ingredients. Primarily, you make a cherry vodka sour with vodka, lemon juice, grenadine, simple syrup, and an optional egg White.

It’s a crisp and refreshing beverage. And if you like other vodka cocktails like the Cosmopolitan Martini or other sours drinks like the whiskey sour or the raspberry vodka sour, you’ll love the cherry vodka sour.

Variations

There are a couple interesting and flavorful variations to this recipe you can try.

Egg Whites

Yes. Egg whites. We know it may sound a little odd but, trust us, it’s worth the weirdness. When shaken, egg whites become light and frothy. This will add a unique texture to your cocktail. Don’t worry, if you are vegan, you can also use an egg white substitute for similar results.

To make this drink variation you follow the recipe as written with an extra step added to the beginning. All you have to do is add your egg white to your shaker prior to anything else. Give it a few shakes so that it starts to froth a little. Add your ice and shake again to chill the egg.

Now proceed to the recipe like normal.

Sprite

Sprite is a fantastic mixer, not just for a cherry vodka sour, but for many cocktails like a plain vodka sprite. Because it has a lemon-lime citrus flavor and it’s carbonated, Sprite delivers a big 1-2 punch.

You can add Sprite to pretty much any sours style drink; like a vodka sour or whiskey sour.

How To Make A Vodka Sour

Equipment:

Rocks glasses (this is the set we use personally)

Jigger (we use the jigger and shaker from this set)

Shaker

Hawthorne Strainer

4″ Cocktail Pick

Get all your ingredients together and start making your drink.

Ingredients:

2 oz Vodka

1½ oz lemon juice

1 oz Simple Syrup

½ oz grenadine

lemon wedge and/or 3 maraschino cherries

1 oz egg white (optional)

1 oz Sprite (optional)

Step One

Fill shaker with ice.

Note: add ice later if making with egg white

Step Two

Add in 2 oz vodka, 1½ oz lemon juice, 1 oz Simple Syrup, and ½ oz grenadine

Step Three

Place top on shaker and give a good shake or two.

Note: if adding egg white, add ice after first shake and then shake again. If adding Sprite, add 1 oz after shaking.

Step Four

Replace lid with Hawthorne strainer and pour into rocks glass. If you prefer ice, you can skip the strainer.

Garnish with half lemon wheel peel and 3 maraschino cherries on a 4″ cocktail pick.
