If you love the sweet fruity taste of fruit loops cereal then you must try this froot loop shot. With its bright color and delicious flavor this shot is sure to dazzle at your next get together.
What is a Froot Loop Shot
A froot loop shot is a combination of equal parts amaretto, grenadine, blue curaçao and milk or half and half. The resulting creamy purple looking shots is very reminiscent of the flavor of froot loops cereal. It’s sweet and fruity with a little cream added in.
Amaretto is a liqueur originally from Italy. It is typically made from the pits of apricots or peaches. There are a few different brands of amaretto, however, one of the most popular is disaronno which is around 28% alcohol by volume. Almaretto has a sweet almond-like flavor with a little bit of bitterness at the tail end.
Blue curaçao is not surprisingly a blue colored liqueur. Despite its blue appearance it has a strong orange flavor.
Grenadine is a bright red syrupy liqueur. It is made from pomegranate flavoring though some people feel it has almost a cherry-like flavor.
To add a little bit of cream-like flavor to this shot you’ll use half and half or milk. If you wanted the flavor to be slightly thicker and creamier you could even use a heavy cream.
When to mix this shot
This fun and brightly colored shot is perfect for many different occasions such as:
- After dinner drinks
- informal get togethers
- Summer celebrations
- dessert drinks
Variations
There are a few ways you can mix this shot up including:
- Substitute the half and half. You can use milk or heavy cream instead of half and half and still have a very similar tasting shot.
- Use loopy vodka instead of amaretto. Loopy vodka itself tastes like froot loops, so you can add this in instead of amaretto and grenadine.
- Add RumChata. Use RumChata instead of the half and half to still have a creamy taste but a little extra spice.
Similar shots include: the fruity pebbles shot and the purple gecko shot
