What is a rum and cranberry cocktail?
A rum and cranberry cocktail is a refreshing sipper that is made of two simple ingredients. All you need is cranberry juice and rum.
This cocktail and it’s bright red color is perfect for any fun festivities. The cranberry flavor makes it great for fall or winter holidays. But the bright color and refreshing taste also makes it great for sipping in the summer.
There are, in fact, many types of rum. There is dark rum, spiced rum, coconut rum and white rum. In general, rums have a tropical and fruity flavor. But the exact flavor of the rum will depend on what type you are using.
For this cocktail, we recommend using something like Bacardi which is a white rum. However, you might also try a spiced rum and make a Captain and Cranberry.
As you may know, cranberry juice also comes in a couple different varieties. Pure cranberry juice tends to be very tart, sour and bitter. If that is too much for you, you can use a cranberry juice cocktail or a cranberry juice with added sugar.
Cranberry juice is a popular mixer for cocktails. If you like the cranberry flavor, you might try a Tequila and cranberry or whiskey and cranberry.
How to make this drink:
Mixing this drink up is super easy to do. You just have to throw your couple of ingredients together and stir them.

- 2 oz rum (any kind, we like Bacardi)
- 4 oz Cranberry juice
- Lime wedge
Instructions:
Step one
As you prepare to make this drink, you want to make sure that you have all of your ingredients and equipment.
Step two
First, fill your highball glass to the top with ice.
If you are choosing to use a cocktail shaker to make sure drink, you will also want to fill your cocktail shaker with ice.
Step three
Next, you can prepare your lime garnish. You will first cut your lime into wedges.
Then, you will select one wedge and make a small cut between the lime pulp and the lime peel. This cut will help to anchor your wedge to the rim of your glass.
Now, you can place your lime wedge on your glass.
Step four
There are two ways to mix this drink. You can either do it in your cocktail shaker or straight in your highball glass.
Step Five
To mix with a cocktail shaker:
Measure 2 oz from with your jigger. And pour the rum into your cocktail shaker over the ice.
Then, measure 4 oz of cranberry juice with your jigger. And pour the cranberry juice into your cocktail shaker with your ice and rum.
Put the top on your cocktail shaker. Shake the shaker well until the outside turns cold to the touch. Then, remove the top and replace it with your Hawthorne strainer.
Finally, pour your liquid from your cocktail shaker into your highball glass.
Step Six
To mix straight in your glass:
Measure 2 oz of rum with your jigger. And dump it into your highball glass over the ice.
Next, measure 4 oz of cranberry juice with your jigger. And dump it into your highball glass with the rum and the ice.
If you prefer a stronger cranberry flavor you can add additional cranberry juice if you like. The more cranberry juice you use the less you’ll taste the rum.
Finally, using a bar spoon, place the spoon into your glass and mix the ingredients well.

Ingredients
- 2 oz Rum
- 4 oz Cranberry Juice
- Ice
- lime wedge garnish
Instructions
- Fill Highball Glass with ice
- Fill Cocktail Shaker with ice
- Cut Lime into wedges and add one wedge to rim of glass
- Measure and pour 2 oz of rum into cocktail shaker
- Measure and pour 4 oz of cranberry juice into cocktail shaker
- Add top to shaker and shake well
- Remove top and place Hawthorne strainer on top of shaker
- Pour liquid from shaker into highball glass
- (optional) add a dash of cranberry juice to top off glass
- (optional) instead of using a cocktail shaker, you can just add the rum and cranberry juices straight to the highball glass and give it a stir with a bar spoon.
