What is a whiskey and cranberry juice cocktail?

A whiskey and cranberry juice cocktail is very simply a mixture of cranberry juice and whiskey. It is an easy to make drink with a refreshing taste.

There are actually many types of whiskeys. Any will work great in this cocktail. You can use a rye whiskey which tends to be a little drier. Or a bourbon whiskey which tends to be a little sweeter.

Cranberry juice actually comes in a couple variations as well. Pure cranberry juice tends to be extremely tart and bitter. If your flavor preference isn’t something quite so sour, you can use a cranberry juice cocktail which is a combination of cranberry juice and a few other juices. Or a cranberry juice with some added sugar. Both of these options will sweeten your cocktail a little bit.

A whiskey and cranberry juice cocktail is a beautiful red drink perfect for festivities. The cranberry flavor is a perfect flavor to pair with the fall and winter holidays. However, the refreshing taste of this cocktail also lends itself to Summer sipping.

Cranberry juice is a popular mixer for other liquors as well. Some with a similar taste to this cocktail include: Gin and cranberry Cranberry whiskey sour or Vodka and cranberry.

    How to make this drink:

This cocktail is easy to stir up. Simply toss your two ingredients together and give them a spin with your spoon.

    Equipment:

    • highball glass
    • jigger
    • bar spoon

    Ingredients:

    • 2 oz Whiskey
    • 4 oz Cranberry juice
    • Lemon or Lime wedge

    Instructions:

    Step one

Before getting started, make sure that you have all of your supplies and ingredients ready to go.

    Step two

The garnish for the string will be the next step. You can use a lemon or a lime wedge as your garnish. We prefer lime but lemon goes well with the flavor as well.

To make your lemon or lime wedge, simply cut the fruit into slices or wedges. Then make a small cut on one wedge between the peel and the pulp of the fruit.

Use the cut that you’ve made to place your wedge on the rim of your highball glass.

    Step three

Now, take your jigger and measure 2 oz of whiskey. Then dump that whiskey over your ice in your highball glass.

    Step four

Now take your jigger again and measure 4 oz of cranberry juice. Then dump that cranberry juice over your ice and whiskey in your highball glass.

    Step Five

    Optional mixing:

If you would like to mix your ingredients in a cocktail shaker instead of your glass you can do so. You’ll just make sure your cocktail shaker is full of ice. Measure your whiskey and cranberry juice with the jigger as described above but dump it into the Shaker instead of your glass.

Shake the Shaker with the top on until the outside of the Shaker becomes cold to the touch. Remove the top, place the Hawthorne strainer on top of the Shaker and dump the liquid into your highball glass.

    Step Six

Use a bar spoon to gently mix together your drink. Then take a sip and enjoy!
