Whiskey and Lemonade, better known as The Lynchburg Lemonade, is a classic cocktail that is popular far beyond it’s Tennessee namesake.
What is a Whiskey and Lemonade?
Whiskey and Lemonade is a delicious cocktail blending a smooth, usually Tennessee, whiskey with natural fruit juices, a bit of sweetness, and a dash of Triple Sec.
If you’re looking for an awesome BBQ drink, this is it. Make a pitcher and sit around enjoying time with friends and family. Feel free to use any whiskey you like, but to retain authenticity, we recommend using a Tennessee whiskey, like Jack Daniels or something from the same region.
Why Lemonade?
Lemons and limes (as do oranges) blend perfectly with just about any whiskey. The sharp citric acid helps cut through some of the bite in whiskey. In a sense, they cancel each other out for a smooth sipping experience. We use lemonade because it is also a bit sweet which just amplifies the smoky goodness of whiskey.
You can make your own lemonade, use store bought, or use a measured blend of lemon juice and simple syrup just for your drink. The choice is up to you!
How to make this drink:
Take a minute to figure out what type of whiskey you want to use and then move on when you’re ready.
Step 1
Place a glass in your freezer to chill. A highball glass is best for these cocktails. Chilling is optional but really helps make the drink special.
Step 2
Fill a mixing tumbler with ice.
Step 3
Take out the whiskey you picked out earlier and pour in 1 ½ oz (2 oz if you’re using premixed lemonade; store bought or homemade)
Add in 1 ½ oz of Simple Syrup and 1 ½ oz of lemon juice.
Step 3b
If using store bought or homemade from a pitcher, skip to Step 4b.
Step 4
Top off your glass with 4 oz of Lemonade
Step 5
Now pour in 1 ½ oz of lime juice, ½ oz of Triple Sec, and top it off with club soda (about 2 oz)
Step 6
Now, slowly pour your drink, ice and all, from the mixer into your glass and back again a few times. This makes sure the drink is mixed thoroughly.
Step 7
Stick a lemon wedge on the edge of your glass to garnish and enjoy!
You can add a bit of honey or fresh rosemary, if you like. Some folks enjoy the extra flavor those ingredients add.
