    What is Blueberry Simple Syrup?

Blueberry simple syrup is a combination of equal parts blueberries, water and sugar. It is a nice flavorful fruity sweetener to add in to a wide variety of drinks or even top your food off with.

Create a sweet and summery taste in your next drink or dessert by adding a dash of this blueberry simple syrup in. Simple syrups are easy to make liquid like sweeteners that are more easy to dissolve and drinks than regular sugar. There are lots of fruity simple syrups in addition to this one including strawberry syrup and blackberry syrup.

With only three ingredients this one is super easy to make. All you really need to do is toss everything into a pot and simmer for 10 minutes.

If you’re not convinced yet, here are a few easy reasons you’ll love this recipe:

    • Super easy. You can whip this one up with three easy ingredients in about 15 minutes. Just simmer everything together and then let it cool.
    • Not expensive. The three ingredients for this recipe are not expensive at all. In fact, one of them is simply water.
    • Incredibly versatile. You can add this to such a wide variety of different drinks such as coffees, teas, lemonades, cocktails and mocktails. You can even add it to breakfast dishes like pancakes or dessert dishes like sweet breads.

    Step Six

Take the pot off of the stove. Then, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove any pieces of berry.

Add the leftover syrup to an airtight container with a lid and place it into the refrigerator to give it time to cool and thicken. This usually takes at least 2 hours.

    How to Use

You can serve this up for so many different drinks and dishes including:

    • Add it to mocktails. It makes a nice sweet fruity addition to a wide variety of mocktails like this blueberry mocktail.
    • Add it to cocktails. It works the same in cocktails as it does for mocktails. Replace simple syrup in any blueberry flavored cocktail like this blueberry margarita.
    • Put it in other drinks. Add 2 oz to milk, coffee or iced tea to add a sweet fruity blueberry flavored milk or coffee.
    • Sweeten up breakfast. Put this as a topping on pancakes, waffles or even french toast. It’s sure to brighten up your breakfast.
    • Decorate your dessert. Add this to cakes like cheesecakes, pies or even cookies to add a bright, sweet blueberry flavor.

    Variations

Here’s where you’ll find ingredient substitutions and flavor variations for this recipe:

    • Leave in the berries. If you’re making this to add to food, it’s nice to have a thicker syrup. Don’t strain the berries out and it will make it better to add to foods.
    • Thicken it up. Add one teaspoon or more of cornstarch to create a thicker syrup.
    • Make more or less. The ingredient amounts that we’ve used in this recipe resulted in about 1.25 cups of syrup. If you need More or less you can simply increase or decrease the ingredient amounts as long as they stay in the same ratios.
    • Infuse additional flavors. You can trade up the flavors in this syrup by adding things like a teaspoon of vanilla, a couple mint leaves or even a couple slices of jalapeno to make it spicy.

    Top Tips & Storage

Make sure you don’t miss these top tips for success and storage to maximize your recipe:

    • Make it airtight. Keep this in an airtight container with a lid in the refrigerator to keep it cool. It should store well for 2 to 4 weeks.
    • Freeze if needed. If you aren’t going to use it before around 2 weeks, Then you should freeze it to store it for longer. Simply pour it into an ice cube tray. Once it’s frozen, pop the ice cubes out and add it to a freezer bag.
    • Strain well. If you won’t be using this to top off food, make sure to get all the berry pieces out by using a very fine mesh strainer.
    • Don’t boil it. Make sure to just get this out of heavy simmer without boiling. That way you can prevent any loss of water or burning.
