What is a Cap’n Crunch Shot?

A Cap’n Crunch shot is a combination of vanilla vodka, half and half, Kahlua, tequila Rose and grenadine. This shot not surprisingly taste a bit like the milk after you eat Captain crunch berries. It has a sweet creamy flavor with hints of strawberry mixed in.

You may remember Captain Crunch and it’s variations such as Captain Crunch berries from your childhood cereals. Captain Crunch itself has a kind of buttery sweet flavor. Crunch berries have that buttery sweet flavor topped with strawberry from the berry clusters.

Vodka is a clear, rather neutral flavored liquor. It is made by fermenting grains and then distilling them. There are various different flavored vodkas such as vanilla vodka. Vanilla vodka has a sweet and, not surprisingly, vanilla flavor.

Grenadine is a bright red very sweet syrup. It is made from pomegranates. However, some people like in its flavor to a cherry syrup.

Tequila Rose is a pink creamy liqueur. It is made with tequila, sugar and strawberry cream. It is a very smooth, creamy and sweet liqueur that has a strong strawberry flavor.

Kahlua is a coffee infused liqueur. It is made from rum, arabica coffee beans and sugar. It is a dark colored liqueur that is sweet with a strong coffee flavor.

Variations:

This shot is not a standard drink, therefore, it does have different variations depending on the recipe you use. Here are a few ways to mix this one up:

• Substitute the half and half. You can use heavy cream or milk instead of half and half in this drink. You could also use Irish cream which would add a little more liquor or alcohol to this drink.
• Add a different coffee liqueur. Kahlua is not the only coffee liqueur available. There are other brands such as Tia Maria that you could substitute in for it.
• Use vanilla schnapps. You can replace the vanilla vodka with vanilla schnapps if you want a lower alcohol by volume shot.

How to make this drink:

The shot is super quick to make and can be shaken and ready to enjoy in around 3 minutes. You only need five ingredients tossed into your shaker and mixed well.

Equipment:

• Shot glasses
• jigger
• cocktail shaker
• Hawthorne strainer

Ingredients:

• .25 oz Tequila rose
• .25 oz Kahlua
• .25 oz Vanilla vodka
• .25 oz Half and half
• Splash of grenadine
• Ice

Instructions:

Step one

Get started by making sure you have everything needed to make this shot including Kahlua, vanilla vodka, grenadine, tequila Rose, half and half, cocktail shaker, Hawthorne strainer, ice, shot glass and jigger.

Step two

Grab up some ice and toss into your cocktail shaker. The shaker should be filled almost to the top with ice.

Step three

Grab up your jigger and Kahlua. Measure out 0.25 oz of Kahlua. Toss that into your shaker.

Step four

Grab up your jigger and tequila Rose. Measure out 0.25 oz of tequila Rose. Toss that into your shaker with the Kahlua.

Step Five

Grab up your jigger and half and half. Measure up 0.25 oz of half and half. Plus that in your shaker with the tequila Rose and Kahlua.

Step Six

Grab up your jigger and vanilla vodka. Measure up 0.25 oz of vanilla vodka. Toss that in your shaker with the tequila Rose, half and half and Kahlua.

Step Seven

Grab up your grenadine. Add a splash or two of it straight into the shaker.

Step Eight

Place the top on your shaker. Then, shake it well for around 15 seconds or until the shaker feels cool to the touch on the outside.

Step Nine

Remove the cap from the top of the shaker and strain your drink from the shaker into your shot glass. Enjoy!
