What is a Gorilla Fart Shot?
A gorilla fart shot is a combination of wild turkey bourbon and a small layer of 151 rum on top. Honestly, this shot is an extremely strong alcohol flavor that burns all the way down.
Wild turkey is a type of Kentucky bourbon whiskey. It has a full body and complex flavor for a sweet, vanilla and caramel flavors with oaky undertones (source).
151 rum is a type of gold rum. It is essentially overproofed which means that it has an extremely high alcohol by volume. When used in drinks, it is typically used in very small proportions and often is floated on the top of a drink.
When to Make This Drink:
With how potent this shot is, it’s best suited only for certain occasions like:
- college parties
- cocktail hour
- bachelor and bachelorette parties
With only two simple ingredients that aren’t very many ways to change this one up. But, here a few things to try:
- Flame it up. 151 rum is such high proof liquor but it is commonly used to light on fire and drinks. If you want to make this one a real centerpiece, you could light the layer of 151 on fire to make this a flaming gorilla fart. If you choose to do this do be careful!
- Make it even more potent. This will make it a super high proof cocktail so be careful with this. However, you could do equal parts so half an ounce of each ingredient.
- Shake It up. Instead of layering the rum on top, you could shake the two together and a shaker which would also help dilute the 151 rum a little.
- Add a little flavor. Some variations of this recipe call for adding a little banana liqueur in which is probably apt considering the name.
How to make this drink:
Since it’s only has two ingredients, it’s super easy to make. It may take an extra minute or so to make sure that you layer the 151 on top.
- .75 oz Wild turkey
- Top with .25 oz 151 rum
Grab everything you need for the shot including wild turkey, 151 rum, jigger, bar spoon and shot glass.
Pick up the wild turkey. Use the jigger to measure out 0.75 oz and pour it into the bottom of the shot glass.
Pick up the 151 rum. Use a digger to measure out 0.25 oz.
Place a bar spoon just above the top of the wild turkey in the shot glass. Gently and slowly pour the 151 rum over the back of the bar spoon so it lays on top of the wild turkey.
Take a deep breath and knock the shot back.

- Begin by gathering up all the equipment and ingredients listed.
- Grab the Wild turkey. Measure .75 oz with a jigger. Then, dump the wild turkey into the shot glass.
- Grab the 151 Rum. Measure .25 oz with a jigger. Then, dump the 151 on top of the wild turkey.
- Kick the shot back and enjoy.
