What is a Jamaican Me Crazy Cocktail?

How to making me crazy cocktail is a combination of white rum, coconut rum, banana liqueur, orange juice, cranberry juice, passion fruit juice and pineapple juice. The resulting cocktail is a pinkish color and has a standout citrus flavor with a sweet smoothness from the banana and a tropical flair from the coconut rum.

White rum is typically unaged. It is made from fermenting and then distilling sugarcane. It’s taste is typically light and slightly sweet with a little undertone of various spices.

Coconut rum is also made by fermenting and then distilling sugarcane. It is typically slightly aged. Additionally, it has the addition of coconut flavor.

Different brands of coconut rum have slightly different flavor profiles and are made slightly differently. One of the most popular coconut rums is Malibu. Malibu actually is so sweet and has a lighter alcohol by volume that it is technically considered a liqueur.

There are wide variety of different banana liqueurs available. Some are clear while others are creamy. All of them are typically made from a base spirit and then infused or flavored with bananas and sugar.

As for the variety of juices that are used in this cocktail, it is best to use fresh not from concentrate when it all possible. Additionally, it’s best to use 100% primary juice and not a cranberry cocktail. And, it’s best to use pulp free orange juice.

    Variations:

This cocktail is not an IBA standard cocktail which means that some recipes call for either different ingredients or different amounts of ingredients. If you ways you can mix this one up are:

    • Lime juice. Some recipes call for adding lime juice. Typically in these recipes you do not add cranberry juice. The cranberry juice adds a tartness to balance out the sweet of the other ingredients and the lime juice does the same.
    • Leave out a few juices. Some recipes call for using less different varieties of juices. For example, you could leave out passion fruit juice and simply add .5 oz of one of the other juices.
