What is Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup?
Pumpkin spice simple syrup is a festive fall flavored sweetener that is a combination of vanilla extract, pumpkin puree, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and equal parts brown sugar and water. The resulting syrup is the perfect combination of sweetness and pumpkin spice flavors. It can easily be added into a wide range of different drinks, desserts and other foods.
Simple syrup is especially great for adding in as a flavor and sweetener to beverages. This is due to the fact that it evenly and easily dissolves and does not leave a gritty texture the way that regular sugar does.
Flavored simple syrups are really popular because it’s easy to add a flavor to the simple syrup. Some other popular similarly made ones include gingerbread simple syrup, Ginger syrup and brown sugar syrup.
Here are just a few reasons why you’re sure to love this festive fall syrup:

- Made in 10 minutes. It doesn’t take long at all to toss this together. Well it does have a small handful of ingredients that you need most of them are just spices. You can have this whipped together in about 10 to 15 minutes.

How to Use
You can add the syrup to almost any food or drink. Here are a few of our favorite suggestions:
- Pumpkin spice latte. Make your own Starbucks copycat pumpkin spice latte at home by adding a splash of this into your plain latte.
- Cakes, cookies and sweetbreads. Give a little false festivity flavor to your cakes, cookies, sweet threads or other desserts by drizzling this overtop. For cakes particularly it is great because you can brush it between layers and it doubles as a moistener.
- Add it to hot chocolate. You can add an ounce to of this to your favorite hot chocolate recipe to add a pumpkin spice flare.
- Add it to cocktails on mocktails. Use this instead of regular simple syrup and pumpkin or pumpkin spice inspired drinks such as a pumpkin pie martini.
- Yogurts, oatmeals and smoothies. Give a little fall flavor to your oatmeal, smoothie or yogurt by drizzling a little bit of this in and mixing it well.
- Make a pumpkin spice tea. You can add 1 to 2 oz of this to your favorite hot or iced tea for a little sweet pumpkin spice flavor.
- Add it to milk. Start 2 oz of this in with a cold glass of milk or a warm glass of milk and make a delicious pumpkin spice milk.
- Drizzle it on ice cream or milkshakes. Create a suite and delicious pumpkin spice flavor on your next dessert by drizzling this over top of your ice cream or milkshake.
Variations
there are a few ways that you can change the ingredients up in this recipe, but still keep the awesome pumpkin spice flavor. Here are a few suggested options:
- Skip the pumpkin. Pumpkin spice itself is really just the collection of spices that are typically used in pumpkin flavored items. We like to add a little pumpkin puree in for a pumpkin flavor, but you can skip it and still have the pumpkin spice flavor.
- Change the sweetener. Use brown sugar instead of granulated white sugar to have a little more caramelized flavor.
- Use actual pumpkin spice. While we made our own pumpkin spice with the seasonings we had in our kitchen, you can certainly just buy premade pumpkin spice at the store.
Top Tips & Storage
Make sure to use these process and storage tips to have the best syrup possible:
- Keep it in the fridge. You’ll want to keep this in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should stay good for around 2 to 4 weeks.
- Put it in the freezer. If you need to store it for a longer time period you’ll need to freeze it. This is easy to do in an ice cube tray. Simply pour it in, let it freeze, then store the cubes in a freezer bag.
- Strain it well. Use as fine of a mesh strainer as you can find so that you can get all of the undissolved gritty spices out. This will leave a more smooth syrup.
