    Ingredients

    • White Rum – we like to use a mid or top shelf since the flavor stands out.
    • Coke – any type you like, we prefer Coke Zero.
    • Ice
    • Lime wedge (optional garnish)

For quantities, see recipe card below.

    Instructions

You can have this drink stirred up in four simple steps. Follow along below to make your own at home.

    Step One

Top off a highball glass with some ice.

Pouring rum into a jigger on a wooden table.

    Step Two

Grab your favorite rum and add in 2 oz.

Pouring coke into a glass with rum.

    Step Three

Fill the rest of the glass with Coke. This should be around 4 ounces or so.

    Stirring a rum and coke.

    Step Four

Tumble them together or stir them with a bar spoon. Use a lime wedge as a garnish and enjoy!

    Variations

This drink is super versatile. You can mix Coke with your favorite kind of rum and the drink will be even more spectacular. A few options are:

    • Captain and Coke (Spiced Rum)
    • Cubata with Dark Rum
    • Malibu and Coke (coconut rum)
    • Appleton and Coke (Jamaican rum)

Or, try out different kinds of Coke like Diet, Cherry Coke or Caffeine free.

    Mixing Tips

    • Maintain the ratio – the 2:1 ratio of Coke to Rum really results in the best flavor combination. Anything lower in Coke and the rum is a bit harsh.
    • Make a pitcher – instead of making just one glass, serve this up at a get together and make a big batch. Simply double or triple the ingredient amounts. But don’t make it far in advance of the fizz in the Coke will go flat.
    • Stir lightly – part of the zing in this drink is the fizz in the soda. So, to make sure you don’t get it too fizzy and then quickly flat, stir the drink gently with a bar spoon to mix it together.
