🥃 What is a Rum on the Rocks?

Rum on the rocks is essentially a shot of your choice of rum served over ice in a rocks glass. Oftentimes you can add a garnish such as a lemon wedge or lime wedge to add a little bit of a citrus twist and color to the drink.

On the rocks when referring to a cocktail essentially means that the liquor or liquors are served over ice. Often times this serves two purposes.

The first reason that you serve it over ice is to ensure that it gets chilled. A cold drink is often times more enjoyable than a warm one.

The second reason you might want to serve it over ice is to help dilute the liquor a little. As the ice melts it adds a little water to the drink.

In addition to rum, several other liquors and liquors are popularly served over ice by themselves. Some choices include: Whiskey on the rocks, brandy on the rocks and baileys over ice.
