A Tequila and Grapefruit Juice is where two awesome cocktail worlds collide; grapefruit juice mixers and margaritas! Let’s get into what we mean, shall we?
What is a Tequila and Grapefruit Juice?
Just about any liquor and Grapefruit Juice is a winning combo. Tequila and grapefruit juice join a delicious family of similar tart cocktails like a Greyhound, Vodka Greyhound, Whiskey Grapefruit, and even the Paloma and it’s offshoot the Cantarito.
And, as we mentioned above, the tequila and juice mixer can also get it added into the large family of margaritas. The classic is good, but some of the fruit/fruit juice based margaritas are even better. Like a Strawberry Margarita and Blueberry Margarita.
Today, we’ll learn how to make a simple Tequila and Grapefruit Juice but also how to take that cocktail and turn it into a delicious Grapefruit Margarita. And, if neither of those are your thing, we have a couple of other simple alterations that are sure to wet your palate.
Let’s start mixing!

Step 4
Put a lid on the shaker and shake a few times to mix everything thoroughly.
Step 5
Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass to get it wet and dip the mouth of the glass into your margarita salt mix*.
*note: depending on if you want sweet or spicy you can either mix the salt 1:1 with chipotle powder or sugar
Step 6
Fill your glass with ice, replace the shaker lid with a Hawthorne strainer, and pour your drink into the glass.
Step 7
Float ¼ oz of Grand Marnier (or another orange liqueur) on top of the drink
Step 8
Garnish with a grapefruit wedge and enjoy!
Variations
Down here you are going to find several modified versions of this cocktail.
Elderflower Grapefruit Cocktail
This variation is really easy. Make the two ingredient, tequila and grapefruit juice cocktail above as written in steps 1 – 3b. Them just add 1 oz of lime juice and 1 oz of Elderflower liqueur. Rim with a lime wedge and enjoy.
Grapefruit Cranberry Cooler
Start with 2 oz of tequila and ice in a highball glass. Then add in 2 oz of cranberry juice and 3 oz of grapefruit juice. You can also splash in some Campari for a hint of bitter orange.
Another option, with or without the Campari, is to pour in 1 to 2 oz of club soda and give your cocktail some fizz.
