The Whiskey and Sprite combination is a classic cocktail well known just about anywhere you can go. You may be wondering why that is when you haven’t heard of anyone making one of these before. Let’s get into why that may be.

What is a Whiskey and Sprite?

Let’s cut right to the chase. Why would I say a Whiskey and Sprite is super popular? It’s because it is a slight variation of what you may know as a Seven and Seven or 7 & 7. Traditionally, a 7 & 7 is made with Seagram’s 7 and 7-Up. However, and some purists may fight me on this, Sprite is a similar enough citrus soda that, once combined with your favorite bourbon, is not too far off from what a 7 & 7 tastes like.

Who knows, you may even like it more!

Try out different variations, if you like. As you may know, whiskeys can vary depending on where, by whom, and with what they are made. Jameson’s Irish Whiskey will have a completely different flavor profile than, say, Jack Daniels or Wild Turkey. You can even try it with Hennessey or any other cognac.

Sprite as a Mixer

Sprite is one of our favorite soda mixers. Lemon and lime already go well with so many drinks hence why they are used often as a garnish. Sprite has that similar flavor but adds a nice, refreshing fizz.

You can use Sprite to give your Margaritas an extra oomph or even make a budget Margarita with Tequila and Sprite. Of course, some of our other favorite cocktails are the Gin and Sprite, Rum and Sprite, and Vodka and Sprite.

Sprite is such a great mixer, we will sometimes even add into our other margarita recipes for a little bit extra flavor. Try it out in a Blue Margarita, Blueberry Margarita, or even a Strawberry Margarita.

Other Soft Drink Mixers

Sprite isn’t alone in being a good mixer. Many sodas work well when mixed with alcohol. Some smooth out the bite of a harsh liquor while others give a bit of sweetness to an otherwise bitter or tart drink. We often use Coca-Cola (or Diet Coke), Ginger Ale, Mountain Dew and Root Beer.

If you want to try some of these out, check out our Vodka Ginger Ale, Whiskey and Mountain Dew, Jack and Coke, and the Lynchburg Beer aka Whiskey and Root Beer.

Now, let’s make this Whiskey and Sprite!
