What is a Crown and Coke?

A crown and Coke is a delicious fizzy to ingredient highball that has strong notes of caramel and vanilla. It is made by using a two-to-one ratio of Coke to crown Royal.

The fizzy sweetness of the coke and the smoothness of the crown mix beautifully creating an easy sipping crown Royal cocktail.

Crown Royal itself is a type of Canadian whiskey. It has strong notes of caramel, vanilla and brown sugar. It also, of course, has a bit of oaky notes as most whiskeys do. It is a smooth and easy to drink whiskey without too strong of an alcohol bite.

You are likely familiar with Coke. Coke like other sodas is a sweetened and carbonated drink. It has a complex taste with notes of vanilla and some spices such as cinnamon.

    Occasions to mix this drink

This drink is super easy to toss together and with its sweet and fizzy flavor is a favorite for many different occasions such as:

    • casual sipping
    • afternoon parties and get togethers
    • lunch time drinks
    • drinks with dinner

    Variations on this drink

Though regular crown Royal and regular Coke are the favorites for mixing this one up, there are a few variations you can use to make this drink.

    • Add some lemon or lime. Adding a little dash of lemon or even lime helps to mix with the spice in the coke smoothing the drink out with a little hint of citrus.
    • Make it a diet or zero sugar. There are many different Coke variations which you can use in this drink. Particularly if you were watching calories or just have a special diet you can use diet Coke, Coke zero or even caffeine free coke for this drink.
    • Add a flavor twist. There are separate ways you can add a twist on the flavor of the strength including: apple crown Royal, peach crown Royal, vanilla crown Royal, salted caramel crown Royal, vanilla Coke, Cherry Coke

Some similar coke based cocktails are: Whiskey and coke, jager and coke, peanut butter whiskey and coke and vodka and coke.

    How to make this drink:

This highball only has two simple ingredients and is super easy to mix up. You can have it ready in 2 minutes or less simply by tossing your ingredients together and giving them a stir.

    Equipment:

    • highball glass
    • jigger
    • cocktail shaker
    • Hawthorne strainer
    • bar spoon

    Ingredients:

    • 2 oz Crown Royal
    • 4 oz Coke
    • Ice
    • (optional) lemon or lime wedge garnish
highball glass with ice and crown royal and coke bottles next to the glass

    Instructions:

    Step one

Begin by gathering your Coke, crown Royal, ice, jigger, highball glass, bar spoon or cocktail shaker.

Additionally, if you are adding a lemon or lime wedge garnish, go ahead and grab your fruit.

    Step two

Take your ice and use it to fill your highball glass almost to the top.

    Step three

Use your jigger and measure 2 oz of crown Royal. Pour the crown Royal into the glass with the ice.

    Step four

Use your jigger and measure 4 oz of Coke. Pour your Coke into your highball glass with the crown Royal.

Note: alternatively, instead of measuring the coke, you can simply top the glass off with it. Doing this usually ends up adding 5 or so ounces instead of four which can temper the flavor of the crown Royal some.

    Step Five

now’s the time to get your drink mixed up. There are two options for doing this.

First, you can simply take a bar spoon and place it in your glass. Then gently give your drink a few stirs.

The other method is to use a cocktail shaker. To do this, carefully pour the contents of the highball glass into your cocktail shaker. Then for the contents from a shaker back into your glass.

    Step six

If you’d like to add an optional garnish now’s the time to do so. Grab either a lemon or lime and cut it into slices.

Then, take one slice and cut a small notch in the pulp of the fruit. Use this notch to secure one wedge on the rim of your glass.

    Ingredients

    • 2 oz Crown Royal
    • 4 oz Coke
    • Ice

    Instructions

    • Make sure you have all the things you need in order to make your drink.
    • Fill the highball glass up with ice.
    • Measure out 2 oz of Crown Royal with the jigger. Then, toss it into the glass.
    • Measure our 4 oz of Coke with the jigger. Then, toss it into the glass.
note: alternatively, you can just top the glass off with the coke instead of measuring it.
    • Stir the drink up well. There are two ways to do this:
