Rum and 7up is a super easy to make fizzy lemon-lime cocktail. You can use any type of rum you prefer to tweak the flavor of this cocktail a bit. No matter which you choose, you’re sure to have a super refreshing drink that is great for sipping anytime.
What is a Rum & 7up?
A rum and 7up is a simple two ingredient cocktail that has a fizzy lemon-lime flavor. The rum flavor itself will vary depending on which type of rum you prefer to use. We like White Rum or Spiced rum for this cocktail, but dark or coconut rum flavors would fit right in as well.
In general rum tends to have a sweet flavor with a bite from the alcohol on the tail end. Coconut rum, maybe obviously has a coconut profile as well. White rum tends to be similar to the taste of vodka, but with a little more sweetness and sometimes some hints of vanilla. Dark rum has a richer, smokier and slightly spicy flavor. Spiced rum has a spicy, pepper, cinnamon and vanilla flavor to it.
7up is similar to sprite in that they are both lemon-lime based sodas. However, 7up tends to have a strong taste of lime versus lemon. And 7up also tends to be a little less sweet than Sprite. A rum and sprite is also a delicious cocktail.
The rum and 7up drink is a perfect cocktail for most anytime. It’s refreshing taste lends it to fit perfectly for spring and summer occasions. However, especially made with dark or spiced rums, this cocktail could fit in with Fall and Winter occasions as well.
This cocktail tastes similar to Whiskey and 7up, Vodka and 7up or Tequila and 7up.
How to make this drink:
All you need to do to make this drink is toss your two ingredients together and give them a stir. You can have this one whipped up in two minutes or less.
Equipment:
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Rum
- 4 oz 7up
- Ice
- Lemon or Lime Wedge (optional)
Instructions:
Step one
The first thing you want to do is get you bar spoon, highball glass, jigger, rum and 7up ready to go.
Step two
Then, go ahead and fill your highball glass with ice. You want enough ice that the glass is almost filled to the top.
Step three
Grab up your rum and your jigger. Then, use your jigger to measure out 2 oz of rum. Dump your rum over the ice into your highball glass.
Step four
Grab up your 7up and your jigger. Then, use your jigger to measure out 4 oz of 7up. Dump your 7up over the ice into your highball glass with your rum.
If you want your drink to be a little lighter on the rum taste, or if you don’t feel like making an exact measurement, feel free to just top the glass off with 7up instead of measuring it with your jigger.
Step Five
Finally, take you bar spoon and put it into your glass. Gently, but thoroughly stir your rum and 7up together so that they are well mixed.
Step Six
If you want to add an optional garnish, a lemon or lime wedge works well. Simply cut a lemon or lime into a few slices. Take one slice and cut a small notch in the middle of the pulp on the slice. Then pop the slice onto the rim of your glass.
Start sipping and enjoy!
