Tequila and Lemonade is a match made in cocktail heaven. This recipe is super easy and has a wonderful flavor that truly earns itself the nickname The Lemonade Margarita. Let’s learn how to make one and get to sippin!
What is a Tequila and Lemonade?
Do you mean besides a cocktail that is perfect for any occasion whether it’s a wedding, social gettogether, or a relaxing night at home alone?
Simply put, a Tequila and Lemonade is a cocktail that is 1 part tequila and 2 parts lemonade. That ratio works for a single drink all the way up to a pitcher or punch bowl.
It’s made similarly to other Tequila and single mixer drinks like a Tequila and Cranberry or a Tequila Sprite.
Why Lemonade?
Lemonade blends super well with tequila. The tart citrus flavor that makes a Classic Margarita so good is the same thing that makes a Tequila and Lemonade just as appealing.
For this recipe we will mix small amounts of lemon juice and simple suyrup to make individual lemonade servings. However, you can make this recipe (as well as Vodka, Gin, Rum, Whiskey, or any Lemonade cocktail) with store bought or homemade lemonade.
That’s enough talking about the drink! Let’s get to making it!
How to make this drink:
Tequila and lemonade starts out easy enough. Grab your favorite gold or silver tequila and let’s get started.
Step 1
Chilling a highball glass in the freezer. This makes your cocktail super cold and refreshing.
Step 2
Grab your mixing tumbler and fill it with ice.
Step 3
Pour in 1 ½ oz of gold or silver tequila (2 oz if you’re using premixed lemonade; store bought or homemade)
If using store bought or homemade from a pitcher, skip to Step 4b.
Step 4
Add in 2 oz of Simple Syrup and 2 oz of lemon juice.
Step 3b
Top off your glass with 4 oz of Lemonade
Step 5
Pout your drink from the mixer into your chilled glass a time or two to make sure it is well mixed.
Step 6
Use a lemon wedge as a garnish and enjoy!
Alternative Versions
You probably already know there are a ton of different types of margaritas (Strawberry, Blueberry, Blue, Budget, etc). The Tequila Lemonade aka Lemonade Margarita is no different. With just a few alterations you can make several new and different drinks!
Salty Chihuahua
I’m not sure why someone would find the thought of a salty chihuahua appealing but to each their own. This drink is still really good and really easy. Follow the recipe above and just add in 1 oz of lime juice.
Pink Señorita
The Pink Señorita is just as easy as the Salty Chihuahua (and has a more appealing name, if we’re being honest). Follow the same recipe and instead of lime juice, add in 1 oz of cranberry juice. It’s just enough that it won’t add too much to the flavor but will give you the pink drink you want.
Fruit Infused Tequila and Lemonade Margarita
This is where you can really start to use your imagination. Tequila and lemonade mix great with any number of different fruits. Basically, if you can muddle it, it will make a tasty drink. Try muddling in a handful of blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, or even strawberries before adding your ice to the mixer. Be sure to pour your simple syrup in with whatever you are muddling. Then proceed with the recipe as written above.
Various Additions
Finally, you can try out a ton of different things. Some people will add an ounce or two of Ginger Ale. You can add some club soda if you want it bubbly. If you prefer the hint of bitter orange flavor in a margarita, try floating a bit of Grand Marnier or Triple Sec on the top.
With this recipe, the possibilities are endless. Try one out this weekend, for sure!
