What is a Vodka and Lemonade?

Vodka and Lemonade is simply a cocktail that is Vodka mixed with Lemonade. Pretty straight forward, right?

While the initial recipe is pretty simple, the true beauty of this drink is how versatile it is and how easily you can make great tasting alternative drinks.

Why Lemonade?

We love to use Lemonade as a cocktail mixer because it goes so well with different liquors and other mixers. The tart citrus flavor of lemon cuts through even the sharpest of vodkas and blends well with many sweet mixers. It’s the same concept for why we like using Coke, Sprite, and Orange Juice. You can even do an iced tea flavor with the Ice Pick Drink.

For this recipe, and any other cocktails with Lemonade, you can either use store bought, homemade (like in a pitcher), or mix a small amount of ingredients together within the cocktail recipe. The latter is our prefered method and what we will use in the detailed walkthrough below.

However, if you want to make your own Lemonade at home, this is a great recipe!

Now, let’s get to the recipe at hand!

How to make this drink:

Any guess what you need to make a vodka and lemonade? Let’s keep it a surprise for now.

Step 1

Stick your highball glass in the freezer so it can chill.

Step 2

Now top off a mixing tumbler with ice.

Step 3

Grab your favorite vodka and pout in 1 ½ oz (2 oz if you’re using premixed lemonade; store bought or homemade)

If using store bought or homemade from a pitcher, skip to Step 4b.

Step 4

Add in 2 oz of lemon juice and 2 oz of simple syrup.

Step 4b

Pour 4 oz of Lemonade into the mixer.

Step 5

Carefully, pour your drink and ice from the mixer into your chilled highball glass. You can also stir your drink with a bar spoon, if you like.

Step 6

Garnish with a lemon or lime wedge and enjoy!

Alternative Versions

As we mentioned above, you can make a few alternative versions of this drink with different flavor profiles with just a few alterations.

Purple Rain Drink

Add some Grenadine, Blue Curacao and Lemonade to get a dark purple colored drink with a tangy and refreshing taste.

Vodka Lemonade Mojito

Prior to putting ice in your tumbler, add in 5-15 mint leaves and the simple syrup before adding ice. Take out your muddler and muddle the mint into the bottom of the mixer. Then proceed with the Vodka and Lemonade recipe above.

Vodka Pink Lemonade

Who doesn’t love pink lemonade? You can make your own vodka version pretty easily. Follow the same mixing instructions above with the following ingredient changes:

  • 1 ½ oz Vodka
  • 2 oz Lemon juice
  • 2 oz Simple syrup
  • 1 oz Cranberry juice
  • ½ oz Lime juice

Vodka Raspberry Lemonade

This may be our favorite version of this cocktail. A deliciously refreshing vodka raspberry lemonade follows the same instructions as the Mojito above with raspberries instead of mint:

  • muddle 5 raspberries
  • 2 oz Simple syrup
  • 1 ½ oz Vodka
  • 2 oz Lemon juice
  • 1 oz Lime juice
