A French 75 cocktail is a combination of gin, simple syrup, lemon juice and champagne. It is an IBA standard drink which means that it has standard ingredients and ratios. It dates back to the early 1900s.
A French 75 cocktail tastes like a sparkly gin sour. It has the herbs and piney taste of the chin with a little bit of citrus tang smoothed out with bubbly sweetness.
Gin is a clear liquor made from juniper berries. It has a complex and robust flavor profile that has strong hints of pine like flavor as well as other spices and botanicals.
The combination of lemon juice and simple syrup is one that is used in many cocktails. It is a delightful combination of tart citrus sour with a little tinge of sweet.
Champagne is basically a sparkling wine. It can come in some various flavors and finishes. But, it tends to be slightly dry a little sweet and very bubbly.

Go ahead and also make sure your champagne and champagne flute have been chilled.
Step two
Go ahead and fill your cocktail shaker to the top with ice.
Step three
Grab your jigger and measure ½ oz of lemon juice and toss it into the cocktail shaker.
Use your jigger again and measure ½ oz of simple syrup and toss that into the cocktail shaker.
Step four
Take your gin and your jigger. Use your jigger to measure 1 oz of gin and throw that into your shaker.
Step five
Mix everything together well by placing the top on your cocktail shaker. Then, shake the shaker for 15 to 20 seconds. The outside should get cold to the touch.
Step six
Remove the top of the shaker and place the Hawthorne strainer over the shaker. Then, strain your liquid from the shaker into your champagne flute.
Step seven
Then, you want to add your champagne. Do this by either measuring out 2 oz of champagne with your jigger. Or, topping your glass off with champagne.
Step eight
If you want to add a lemon twist as the standard garnish, you’ll want to grab a lemon and cut a few wheels from it.
Then, take your knife and cut the peel away from the pulp keeping it all together.
Finally, cut the peel so that it is one long strip and then wrap it around a bar pick so that it twists.
