Thug Passion Drink: fizzy and sweet

What is a Thug Passion Drink?

A thug passion drink, in the famous words of Tupac Shakur, is one part Alize and one part Cristal. The resulting cocktail is a beautiful pink color and it has a sweet passion fruit flavor cut down a little bit with a tangy cranberry bite all mixed together with refreshing bubbles.

Alize is a bright pink colored liqueur. It has a base of French vodka and is infused with very sweet passion fruit flavor. It is 16% alcohol by volume.

It comes in a few different varieties such as gold passion, red passion and blue passion. The version used for this drink is red passion which has an additional flavoring of cranberry in it.

Cristal is a type of very expensive champagne. It is of course bubbly like most champagnes. It also has a light and smooth fruity and citrus flavor.

This drink it’s easy to make, but can make any occasion seem fancy. Here are a few possibilities for when to serve it:

Variations of this drink

Though we wouldn’t want to stray too far from Tupac’s 1996 hit song description, there are a few ways to change this drink up:

• Use a different Alize. As mentioned Alize comes in red passion, gold passion and blue passion. Each has a slightly different flavor profile. But all have that passion fruit and vodka.
• ditch the cristal. Since it can be rather expensive, you can certainly replace it with any other type of champagne. Dry champagnes do well.

How to make this drink:

Needing only two ingredients this drink is particularly easy to make and can be done in 2 minutes or less.

Equipment:

• Champagne Flute
• jigger

Ingredients:

• 3 oz Alize
• 3 oz Champagne

Instructions:

Step one

Gather up your champagne flute, jigger, Alize and champagne.

Since there isn’t any ice used in mixing this drink, you do want to chill your glass and champagne before getting started if possible.

Step two

Use your jigger and measure out 3 oz of Alize. Pour that into your champagne flute.

Of note, the recipe for this cocktail is simply a one-to-one ratio. So, if you wanted to use 2 oz of both ingredients or 4 oz of both that would work also.

Step three

Use your jigger and measure out 3 oz of champagne. Pour that champagne into your champagne flute with Alize.
