What is a Frozen Brandy Alexander?
A frozen brandy Alexander is a combination of Brandy, creme de cacao and vanilla ice cream. It is a decadent drink that tastes like a hot fudge Sundae with a little bit of a fruity bite from the Brandy as it goes down. It is similar to a regular brandy alexander, only with ice cream instead of heavy cream.
Brandy is a liquor that is made by distilling fermented fruit. The alcohol by volume can vary greatly dependent on the brand but most are in the 40% range. Most Brandy’s taste very sweet and fruity.
Creme de cacao comes in both a light and a dark variation. It is a sweet chocolate flavored liqueur. Dark creme de cacao tends to have a more dark chocolate flavor while light creme de cacao has more of a milk chocolate flavor.
There are several different variations and brands of vanilla ice cream. Of course, you can use any you prefer. However, we found that natural high quality vanilla ice cream such as Breyers natural vanilla works particularly well in this drink.

How to make this drink:
This drink is relatively easy to make with only three ingredients. However, it does take a little extra time as you need to blend everything together in your blender.
Equipment:
- Rocks/Scotch/Bourbon glass
- jigger
- Blender
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz dark creme de cacao
- 1.5 oz brandy
- 1.5 cups vanilla ice cream
Instructions:
Step one
Before you get started make sure you have everything you need to make your drink including your blender, rocks glass, jigger, Brandy, creme de cacao and vanilla ice cream.
Step two
Next, go ahead and measure out 1.5 cups of vanilla ice cream and add that to your blender.
Step three
Then, take your jigger and measure 1.5 oz of brandy and toss that in the blender with your ice cream.
Step four
Next take your creme de cacao and your jigger and measure 1.5 oz of creme de cacao. Toss that into your blender with your brandy and ice cream.
Step Five
Go ahead and flip your blender on You will want to blend everything together until you have a milkshake consistency. This doesn’t typically take very long maybe about 20 to 30 seconds on a smoothie setting.
Step six
Once everything is blended well, turn your blender off and then pour your drink into your rocks glass.
If you’d like a garnish for this drink you can add some chocolate syrup around the inside of your glass before adding your drink. And you can also finish the glass off by adding whipped cream to the top.

Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Dark Creme de Cacao
- 1.5 oz Brandy
- 1.5 cups Vanilla Ice Cream
- Chocolate syrup
Instructions
- Gather up the ingredients and equipment needed for this drink.
- Take your rocks glass and chocolate syrup. Tip the glass to the side and slowly squeeze chocolate syrup onto the sides of the glass while rotating the glass.
- Scoop out and measure 1.5 cups of vanilla ice cream and dump into the blender.
- Use the jigger to measure 1.5 oz of dark creme de cacao and toss into the blender.
- Use the jigger to measure 1.5 oz of brandy and toss into the blender.
- Set the blender on smoothie setting and blend for about 30 seconds.
- Turn the blender off and pour your drink into your rocks glass.
