What is a Rainbow Cocktail?
A rainbow cocktail is a layered cocktail with grenadine on the bottom, pineapple juice and vodka in the middle and blue Curacao and vodka on the top. This pretty rainbow colored cocktail is full of tropical sweet fruity flavor.
The tropical flavor in this drink comes in large part from the pineapple juice. Pineapple juice drinks are popular to make when looking for a sweet, fruity cocktail.
The layering in this cocktail and other cocktails, like the Superman cocktail, are made possible due to the fact that different liquids have different densities. For example, grenadine is a very heavy liquid and will almost always sit on the bottom of a drink. Whereas blue curacao is much lighter and can usually float on top. - Use flavored vodka. Capitalize on the fruit flavors in the string by using a flavored vodka such as cherry vodka or citrus vodka.
- Use rum. Substitute the vodka and one or both layers for either white rum or coconut rum if you would like a more tropical flavor.
How to make this drink:
Although you don’t need a ton of ingredients for this drink, it does take about 10 minutes to make it since you have to mix up separate layers and then slowly layer them.

Ingredients:
- 1 oz Grenadine – this is a bright red sweet syrup. It tends to taste like cherries, but is made from pomegranates.
- 1.5 oz Pineapple juice – He’s a 100% no sugar added juice for best results.
- 2 oz Vodka – mid-Shelf vodka works fine for this cocktail. We prefer Stoli.
- .5 oz Blue curacao
- Ice
Instructions:
Step one
Gather together everything for this including hurricane glass, ice, bar spoon, jigger, grenadine, pineapple juice, cocktail shaker, Hawthorne strainer, vodka and blue curacao.
Step two
Fill the cocktail shaker up with ice.
Step three
Measure out 1 oz of grenadine with a jigger and pour it into the bottom of the hurricane glass.
Step four
Carefully add ice up to the top of the hurricane glass.
Use a jigger to measure out one and a half ounces of pineapple juice. And pour it into the shaker.
Step Five
Use a jigger to measure 1 oz of vodka and pour it into the cocktail shaker.
Step Six
Play still It on The Cocktail shaker and shake It well for about 15 seconds. Remove the lid and put the hawthorn strainer on top.
Slowly pour the pineapple juice in vodka mixture from the shaker into the hurricane glass.
Step Seven
Rinse the shaker out and refill it with ice.
Measure out .5 oz of blue curaçao with a jigger and pour itinto cocktail shaker.
Step Eight
Measure out one ounce of vodka with a jigger and toss it into the shaker.

Place a lid on the cocktail shaker and shake it well. Remove the lid and put the hawthorn strainer over top of the shaker.
Slowly pour the blue curaçao and vodka mix from the shaker into the hurricane Glass. If you want to help the layering effect, place the bar spoon upside down in the glass and pour the mixture over the bar spoon.

- Start out by adding some ice to the hurricane glass as well as the cocktail shaker.
- Use the jigger and measure 1 oz of Grenadine. Pour that into the bottom of the glass.
- Use the jigger and measure 1.5 oz of pineapple juice. Pour that into the shaker.
- Use the jigger and measure 1 oz of vodka. Pour that into the shaker.
- Put the shaker lid on and shake for a few seconds.
- Turn a bar spoon upside down in the glass just above the grenadine and slowly pour the pineapple juice and vodka mix over the back of the spoon.note: If you want to create an orange color, pour only a small amount at first, and CAREFULLY use a cocktail pick to stir just at the top of the grenadine. Then, layer the rest of the juice and vodka on top.
- Rinse the shaker out and refill with ice.
- Use the jigger and measure .5 oz of blue curacao. Pour that into the shaker.
- Use the jigger and measure 1 oz of vodka. Pour that into the shaker.
- Shake it up for a few seconds.
- Put the bar spoon upside down in the glass again just above the pineapple juice. Slowly pour the blue curacao and vodka over the back of the spoon into the glass so that it sits on top of the pineapple juice.
