Cognac and Sprite, The KC Tea, The Playmaker…whatever name you want to call it, this cocktail is unbelievably good. Not only is it delicious, but it is also really easy to make. Let’s learn how!
What is a Cognac and Sprite?
Cognac and Sprite is better known by it’s street name, KC Tea. This drink was popularized in the mid 2000s by rapper, Tech N9ne. The drink name is a shout out to his hometown, Kansas City, hence the KC. His preferred version is made with Hennessey because, of course it is.
But you, as a non-hip-hop star, can use any cognac you want. We personally are a little more early 2000s hip-hop and go with the more Busta Rhymes friendly, Courvosier.
Why use a Sprite Mixer?
The lemon lime flavor of Sprite goes well with almost anything. You can make your Margarita stand out a little more, make a tequila and sprite, as well as add some sweetness and bubbles to any cocktail you choose. It’s easy to add in and doesn’t cost too much either.
We like to use Sprite with a lot of different liquors. Try out a Gin and Sprite, Rum and Sprite, and Vodka and Sprite.
Other Soft Drink Mixers
If you want to try something a little different than Sprite, you’re in luck. There are a ton of other sodas that also work great as drink mixers. We like to use Coca-Cola (or Diet Coke), Ginger Ale, and Root Beer.
If you want a few recipes to try out each of these, the the Vodka Ginger Ale, Rum and Coke, Jack and Coke, and the Lynchburg Beer aka Whiskey and Root Beer are all at the top of our list.
How to make this drink:
The KC Tea is super simple to make. You just need a few ingredients and you’re on your way.
Step One
Fill a highball glass all the way to the top with ice
Step Two
Pour 2 oz of Courvosier, Hennessey, or any other cognac you like over the ice.
Step Three
Top off the glass with Sprite or Sprite Zero. This is usually around 4 oz.
Step Four
Add ½ oz of lemon juice or squeeze in a lemon wedge
Step Four
Stir your drink with a bar spoon.
Step Five
Rim your glass with a lemon wedge, kick back, relax, and get krunked!
Playmaker Variation
The Playmaker usually has Hennessey. The recipe is the same except instead of 4 oz of Sprite you only do 2 oz and add in 2 oz of cranberry juice.
