The blue long island iced tea otherwise known as the blue motorcycle is a cocktail filled with 4 different liquors. It is a strong drink with a bright blue color. If you’re looking for a heavy duty hit of alcohol, try this one out.
What is a Blue Long Island Iced Tea?
The blue long island iced tea or blue motorcycle is a combination of vodka, rum, tequila, gin, blue curacao, and sweet and sour mix. It is a strong drink that has a sweetish flavor with some hints of orange. With the amount of liquor in it, you would think it would have a heavy bite of alcohol, but it does not.
This drink with it’s sweetness and citrus flavors is a super refreshing sipper. But watch out because the amount of alcohol can really sneak up on you especially since it is not very noticeable in the drink. Though you do get some of the gin flavors coming through as well as the sweetness of the tequila and rum.
The blue color of this drink comes from the blue curacao. Blue curacao is an electric blue liqueur that has an orange flavor to it. It is around 25% alcohol by volume.
When to Serve the blue motorcycle
This drink is a refreshing but alcohol packed party cocktail. It can be served at a variety of different events and occasions. Here are a few suggestions for when to serve it:
- Poolside gatherings

- After Dinner Drinks
Variations
- This cocktail is almost the same as a long island iced tea, but instead of coke and triple sec you use blue curacao and sweet and sour mix.
- Make your own sweet and sour mix with lemon juice and simple syrup. It is a bit more of a natural flavor than store bought sweet and sour mix.
- Leave out one of the liquors and double the amount of one of the others if you you don’t have all of them.

How to make this drink:
This drink is easy to make – no layering, elaborate glass rimming or elaborate garnishes are required. It does take a handful of ingredients, so it may take up to 5 minutes to make just so you have time to measure everything out.
Equipment:
Ingredients:
- 1 oz Vodka
- 1 oz Rum
- 1 oz Tequila
- 1 oz Gin
- 1 oz Blue Curacao
- 2 oz Sweet and Sour Mix
- Ice
Instructions:
Step one
Start out by getting your blue curacao, vodka, gin, rum, tequila, sweet and sour mix, bar spoon, highball or collins glass and jigger together.
Note: You can either stir this drink in the glass or you can pour from glass to shaker back to glass to mix it up. If you are going to pour it back and forth, get your cocktail shaker instead of the bar spoon.
Step two
Take some ice and use it to fill your glass up almost to the top.
Garnish is optional for this one. If you want to add one, we opted for an orange wheel. Just simply cut a thin wheel from an orange, cut a notch on the side of the wheel and use that to stick the wheel onto the rim of your glass.
Note: if you are using a shaker instead of bar spoon, you’ll also want to throw a couple of ice cubes into your shaker.
Step three
Snatch up your jigger and gin and measure up 1 oz of gin. Throw the gin into your glass.
Step four
Snatch up your tequila and measure up 1 oz of tequila. Throw the tequila into your glass with your gin.
Step Five
Snatch up your vodka and measure up 1 oz of vodka. Throw the vodka into your glass with the gin and tequila.
Step Six
Snatch up your rum and measure up 1 oz of rum. Throw the rum into your glass with the vodka, gin and tequila.
Step Seven
Snatch up your blue curacao and measure up 1 oz of blue curacao. Throw the blue curacao into your glass with the rum, vodka, gin and tequila.
Step Eight
Snatch up your sweet and sour mix and measure up 2 oz of sweet and sour mix. Throw the sweet and sour mix into your glass with the other ingredients
Step Nine
Use your bar spoon to mix everything well by stirring it up for a few seconds.
Note: if using a shaker instead, toss the contents of your glass into your shaker then back into your glass to mix them up
Sit back and enjoy!
