This easy Gin and Coke is a lightly fizzy, sweet and refreshing drink. This cocktail is delicious! Best of all, its super easy, and quick, to make. Lets learn how.
What is a Gin and Coke?
The Gin and Coke, or Cubata, is a fantastic drink. You can make it quickly and it works well in multiple scenarios. The drink is perfect for small gatherings, large parties, or simple dinners for two.
The sweet bite and fizz of Coke blends very well with the natural botanical flavors in a good, high quality gin. The addition of a squeeze of lime from a wedge adds just the right amount of bitter, or sour, flavor to really make this cocktail stand out as one of your favorites.
Some other similar cocktails with coke include: Vodka Coke, Amaretto Coke, Jager and Coke or Tequila and Coke.
Ingredients
- Gin – we like a mid or top shelf like Bombay.
- Coke – any type, we prefer Coke Zero to cut down on the sugar content
- Ice
- Lime wedge (optional garnish)
For quantities, see recipe card below.
Instructions
This drink is super easy to make in just a few steps. Use these step-by-step instructions to mix one up for yourself.
Step One
Fill a highball glass to the top with ice.
Step Two
Add in 2 oz of your favorite gin.
Step Three
Pour in about 4 ounces of Coke (or Diet or Coke Zero).
Step Four
Mix them together by gently tumbling them or stirring with a bar spoon. Garnish the glass with a lime wedge. Sip and enjoy!
Variations
- Change up the Coke – you can use any type of Coke you want, including regular, diet, coke zero or caffeine free. You might also try some different flavors like Cherry Coke.
- Change the Garnish – you can use lime or lemon as the garnish on this drink and the flavor works well. You can also skip the wedge and go for a wheel or twist, if you prefer.
- Make a big batch – keep the 2:1 ratio of Coke to Gin, but scale up by multiplying the ingredients by two or three times to make more than one glass.
Mixing Tips
- Mid or top shelf gin – since this is only two ingredients, using a decent quality gin is important. We like Bombay. You can use any type including flavored gin, if you want.
- Use Clear Ice – though not a requirement, if you have a clear ice maker using clear ice makes for a nice addition to this drink. It melts slower and maintains the flavor better.
- Stir gently – be careful not to have the Coke get too fizzy when mixing. We prefer to use a bar spoon to gently stir or gently tumble from glass to shaker and back to glass.
