What Is An Amaretto And Coke?

Amaretto and Coke is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a two ingredient highball cocktail; meaning it contains about a shot of alcohol with double that amount of a non-alcoholic mixer. In this case, Coke.

It joins the very large family of other Coke Highballs/Cocktails, like Gin Coke, Vodka and Coke, Whiskey and Coke, Jager and coke and Rum and Coke.

But, one of the truly great things about this particular cocktail is how well it works in many other cocktail recipes. We will get more in depth into some other variations later. But, using this recipe as a cocktail base you can make at least another 3 or 4 drinks easily.

If you love the Amaretto flavor, you may also like a Sicilian Kiss Shot or a Amaretto and Dr. Pepper.

    Ingredients

    • Amaretto
    • Coke – whatever type you prefer
    • Ice
    • Maraschino Cherries or Lime Wedge (optional Garnish

For quantities, see recipe card below.

    Instructions

This cocktail is a quick and easy one to learn. Let’s get to it!

    Step One

Put ice in your highball glass.

    Pouring amaretto into a jigger.

    Step Two

Pour in 2 oz of Amaretto (we prefer Disaronno).

Pouring coke into a glass with amaretto.

    Step Three

Pour in 4 oz Coke, Diet Coke, or Coke Zero

    Step Four

Use a bar spoon to stir everything together

Adding a lime wedge to an amaretto and coke.

    Step five

If adding a garnish, pop a lime wedge on the rim.

    Variations

    • Different Coke – change up the flavor by using different Coke. We like to use Coke zero to cut down on sugar. But feel free to use regular Coke, Diet Coke, Caffeine free coke or a flavored coke like Cherry Coke.
    • Cherry garnish – the Amaretto has a nutty and slight hint of cherry flavor. Instead of a lime wedge for garnish, pop a few maraschino cherries on a cocktail pick.
    • Use a rocks glass – we like to use highball glasses for most two ingredient cocktails. But, you can certainly use a rocks glass instead.

    Mixing Tips

    • 2:1 ratio – keeping a 2:1 Coke to Amaretto ratio helps to keep the flavor well balanced in this drink. You can scale it up to make more than one glass as long as you stick to this ratio.
    • Don’t get fizzy – instead of shaking this drink to mix it, use a bar spoon to stir it up so that the Coke doesn’t get all fizzy.
    • Use clear ice – this isn’t a MUST have, but if you are making cocktails often, using a clear ice maker can ramp up your drinks. Use clear ice in this cocktail to give it a nice look and even melting.

    Ingredients

    • 2 oz Amaretto
    • 4 oz Coke Diet Coke, or Coke Zero
    • 1 Lime Wedge optional garnish
    • Ice

    Instructions

    • Add ice to your highball glass – filling it to the top.
    • Use the jigger and measure out 2 oz of Amaretto.
    • Add the Amaretto into the glass with the ice.
    • Use the jigger and measure out 4 oz of Coke.
    • Add the Coke into the glass with the ice and Amaretto.
Note: skip the measuring if you want and just pour the Coke directly into the glass to top it off.
    • Use the bar spoon to gently stir the drink together. Or, carefully pour the drink from the glass to the shaker and back to the glass to mix it.
    • If adding a lime wedge: Cut a lime into slices. Take one slice and cut a small notch in the pulp. Use the notch to secure the wedge to the rim of the glass.
    • Enjoy!
