🥃 What is a Tennessee Mule?
A Tennessee mule is a combination of Tennessee whiskey, ginger beer, lime juice, ice and a sprig of mint is garnish. This lightly fizzy and spicy cocktail is refreshing with a little citrus bite and a smooth caramel flavor from the whiskey.
There’s no stirring, shaking or glass rubbing needed for this cocktail. So it’s super easy to whip up in 5 minutes or less. Just pour everything together and you’re good to go.
This cocktail is essentially a twist on the classic Moscow mule cocktail. He simply replace the vodka and a Moscow mule for Tennessee whiskey.
There are a variety of mule cocktails including the Jamaican mule where you used Jamaican rum, the French mule where you use Brandy or cognac and the Irish mule where you use Irish whiskey.
Mule cocktails are typically served in a copper mug. The copper mug is the traditional serving glassware for the Moscow mule. And, it also serves as an insulated cup so that your refreshing cocktail is ice cold.
There are wide variety of Tennessee whiskeys you can use in this cocktail. Probably the most well-known and the brand we enjoy the most is Jack Daniels.
The main star of the show in this cocktail is the ginger beer. So, try to pick a high quality Brand so you have a really nice spicy and refreshing flavor.

- Use a different Tennessee whiskey. As we mentioned, Jack Daniels is the most popular brand and what we prefer in this cocktail. However, you can use any type of Tennessee whiskey you prefer.
- Use a flavored Tennessee whiskey. Want to add an extra dimension of flavor to this drink? Try out a honey flavored Tennessee whiskey, and apple flavored Tennessee whiskey or even a salted caramel flavored Tennessee whiskey.
- Skip the copper mug. Don’t feel like you have to have copper mugs in order to make this drink. Though they look pretty and have a nice insulation effect they are not essential to the drink. You can use any other type of glassware you prefer.

- 2 oz Jack Daniels
- 4 oz Ginger Beer
- .5 oz Lime Juice
- Sprig of Mint
- Ice

Step one
Gather up everything you need for this cocktail including copper mug, jigger, ice, lime juice, sprig of mint, Tennessee whiskey and ginger beer.
Step two
Stuff your copper mug full of ice until it is filled to the tip top.
Step three
Grab your lime juice. Using the jigger, measure out 0.5 oz of lime juice and pour it into the mug.
Step four
Grab your Tennessee whiskey. Using the jigger, measure out 2 oz of whiskey and pour it into the mug.
Step Five
Grab your ginger beer. Using a jigger, measure out 4 oz of ginger beer and pour it into the mug.
Alternatively, you can just pour the ginger beer straight into the mug to top it off.
Drop a sprig a mint on top and enjoy!

Ingredients
- 2 oz Jack Daniels
- 4 oz Ginger Beer
- .5 oz Lime Juice
- 1 sprig Mint
- Ice
Instructions
- Chuck some ice into the copper mug. It should be completely filled with ice.
- Grab the Jack Daniels. Measure 2 oz of Jack with the jigger and then pour it into the mug.
- Grab the lime juice. Measure .5 oz of lime juice with the jigger and then pour it into the mug.
- Grab the ginger beer. Measure 4 oz of ginger beer with the jigger and then pour it into the mug.
- Take the sprig of mint (or a few mint leaves) and place it on the top of the drink.
