🍎 What is a Apple Cider Moscow Mule?
An apple cider mule is a combination of apple cider, vodka, lime juice, ginger beer and is topped with a sprig of mint and served in a copper mug. This drink has a nice combination of light apple flavor infused with a spicy zing and refreshing lime twist.
You should be able to pour this one together and under 5 minutes. Dump all your ingredients in the mug and you’re good to go. No shaking or stirring required.
This cocktail is a fall flavored twist on a classic Moscow mule. The main difference is that you add apple cider to the drink instead of just using vodka, ginger beer and lime juice. Apple cider cocktails are really popular as they have the perfect flavor for fall.
There are other nice Moscow mule flavor variations including a cranberry Moscow mule, a grape Moscow mule, and a cherry Moscow mule.
Original Moscow mules date back to the 1940s. They are typically served in a pretty copper mug. Not only is the copper mug a nice tradition, it also serves the purpose of providing insulation for the drink to make it stay super ice cold while you sip it.
Even though copper mugs are typically used for mule drinks. Don’t feel like you can’t make one if you don’t have a copper mug. You can certainly serve this drink in another type of glassware such as a highball glass if you desire.
When selecting vodka for the strength, you don’t need to go top shelf. The vodka is not the highlight flavor in this cocktail, so you can stick with a mid-range vodka.

📖 Variations
With only a few select ingredients, there aren’t a ton of things to mix up in this drink. However, here are a few ideas to create a little variety:
- Use a flavored vodka. Capitalize on the Apple flavor in this drink by using an apple flavored vodka. Or, add an extra dimension by using a salted caramel flavored vodka.
- Squeeze your own juice. Get the freshest tasting lime juice by squeezing your own instead of using store-bought.
- Make it by the pitcher. Multiply your ingredients by 5 or 6 and serve this out of a punch bowl with a ladle.
- Add a seasonal garnish. Instead of using the typical sprig of mint, use an apple slice or even a cinnamon stick to garnish this drink.
- Add extra apple cider. You can increase up to 2 oz of apple cider. We wouldn’t recommend going over that because if you do it starts to dilute the ginger beer and lime flavors.
