What is a Chocolate Covered Strawberry Shot?
A chocolate covered strawberry shot is a layered drink with tequila Rose on the bottom and Godiva chocolate liqueur on top with a rim of chocolate syrup and a dollop of whipped cream on top. This pretty little shot Is full of sweet chocolate flavor and creamy strawberry with a little bite of liquor as it goes down.
Of note, layered shots and drinks are made possible by the different densities of liquors and liqueurs used. Essentially, the heavier density the liquid is will sit on the bottom while lighter densities can sit on top.
The key to making a nice clean layered shot is to pour your ingredients very slowly over the back of a spoon into the glass. This way they’ll lay nicely on top of one another and you’ll have clean, crisp layers.

Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 oz Tequila Rose
- 1 oz Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
👩🏻🍳 Instructions
Step one
Start by gathering everything together including tequila Rose, Godiva chocolate liqueur, bar spoon, jigger and shot glass.
Step two
If you want to rim your shot glass now is the time to do so. Put a thin layer of chocolate syrup on a saucer. Then, turn the rim of the glass into the syrup and spin it around until it is coated.
Step three
Measure out 1 oz of tequila Rose with the jigger. Then, pour it into the bottom of the shot glass.
Step four
Next, measure out 1 oz of Godiva chocolate liqueur. Place the bar spoon upside down just above the tequila Rose in the shot glass.
Then, slowly pour the chocolate liqueur over the back of the bar spoon so that it sits on top of the tequila Rose.
Step Five
Pick up the whipped cream and add a large dollop on top of the drink. Then, take your shot.
Variations
Here are just a few easy flavor variations and ingredient modifications you can try out:
- Substitute the tequila Rose. Instead of using tequila Rose, you can use strawberry simple syrup or even strawberry milk if you want to maintain a creamy flavor to the drink. With both of those options since they don’t have any liquor in them at all you might want to add a little tequila or vodka in with them.
- Substitute the chocolate liqueur. Keep the chocolate flavor but use a different type of liquor. Instead of Godiva chocolate liqueur, you can use a chocolate-flavored vodka.
- Shake it up. Although the layering in this drink is part of the appeal since it’s so pretty, you can certainly just simply shake this drink together.
- Play with garnishes. There’s a wide range of different garnishes you can try out to still make this a decadent dessert drink including a strawberry slice on the rim, rim it with strawberry simple syrup, drizzle chocolate syrup in the glass and more.
