    What is a Flaming Sambuca?

A flaming sambuca is 2 oz of sambuca in a shot glass that is then lit on fire and allowed to burn for a few seconds before extinguishing the flames and taking the shot. This daring and fiery drink is more about the experience than the flavor.

Sambuca actually comes in two types: Clear (like used in this drink) and black (like used in this flat tire drink). Sambuca is an Italian liqueur that has a very strong licorice flavor (source).

    Step four

Carefully take your lighter and light the sambuca on fire. People typically let it burn for 5 to 10 seconds.

Then, you’ll want to put the flames out. Common way to do this is to quickly put your hand over top of the shot glass. However, if you are a little nervous about that you can always blow the flames out.

    When to Make This Drink

This fiery drink is not for the faint of heart and is mostly served when you’re looking for a spectacular display for your party goers. Here are a few times you might want to try it:

    • College parties
    • Signature cocktail
    • Bachelor or bachelorette parties
    • New Year’s Eve

    Top tips

Here are a few of the top tips that you should follow to ensure that you have a successful shot making experience:

    • Give yourself some room. Since you’re going to literally be lighting something on fire, you should make sure that you have plenty of space when working on this shot. Clear out any other liquor or liquor bottles and make sure nobody is too close.
    • Use a long lighter. Sometimes called candle lighters or utility lighters, using a lighter with a long handle will be super helpful to make sure that you don’t burn yourself while you’re lighting a shot on fire.
    • Exercise caution. Again, you’re literally lighting liquor on fire so make sure that you are being cautious as you do so. It’s important to not have too much to drink before making this shot as well.
