What is a La Water Cocktail?
In LA water cocktail is a bright green highball drink that is made up of equal parts vodka, gin, tequila, white rum, triple sec, Midori, Chambord, Blue curaçao and sweet and sour mix. The resulting cocktail is a surprisingly sweet and delicious flavor sort of reminiscent of gummy worms or lick them sticks powder with a little citrus zing on the back end.
Vodka, tequila and white rum are all clear liquors. While each is made from a different base ingredient that is fermented and distilled they do have similar characteristics. Vodka is typically made from a grain like rye. Tequila is made from the Blue agave plant. And white rum is made from sugarcane products.
Gin is also a clear liquor. However, it has a more distinctive taste than vodka, tequila or white rum. This is due in part to the juniper berries and other herbs and spices used to make it. It has an herbal and pine-like flavor.
Triple sec is also clear. However, it is a liqueur. It has a strong orange flavor to it.
Blue curaçao is a blue liqueur. And has a similar orange flavor to that of the triple sec. Blue curacao is an essential ingredient in this drink to give it its bright color.
Midori is a melon flavored liqueur. It is neon green in color and is another big part of the color of this LA water cocktail.
Chambord is a deep purple color. It is a blackberry liqueur and taste sweet and syrupy with a blackberry flavor.
Sweet and sour mix is exactly what it sounds like. It is a mixer that has a sweet and citrusy tart sour flavor.
