What is a whiskey and eggnog?

A whiskey and eggnog comes with the full creamy and decadent flavor of eggnog mixed with the slightly oaky, caramel and vanilla flavors of whiskey as it goes down. This easy little two ingredient cocktail is great for sipping on your own or it can easily be made into an entire picture for a big get together.

Whiskey is a dark flavored liquor that is made from distilled grains. There are several different types of whiskey that vary based on the type of grain used the type of barrel used to age it and how long it’s aged among other factors. You can use whatever whiskey is your favorite for this cocktail.

Some popular whiskey types include Irish whiskey, bourbon, Tennessee whiskey and Scotch.

Irish whiskey is an extremely smooth whiskey made from malt grains that are triple distilled. Use this whiskey if you want a very smooth tasting cocktail.

Bourbon tends to be sweet and also smooth though not as smooth as Irish whiskey. It also typically has hints of caramel and vanilla flavors.

Tennessee whiskey is also smooth and is very similar to bourbon. It tends to have a heavy sweet corn flavor with a little bit of nuttiness mixed in.

Scotch is made from malted barley. It tends to have a smoky, malty fruity flavor.

Eggnog is a combination of eggs, cream, milk, sugar and vanilla. It is a very thick, rich and definite drink that has an almost custard-like flavor and texture. It is typically consumed during the winter holidays.

For this cocktail, you can use either store-bought eggnog or you can make your own eggnog. Making your own eggnog is fairly easy but will make the drink take a little longer to put together.

Instructions:

Step one

First thing you want to do is gather up your glass, jigger, bar spoon, whiskey, eggnog and cinnamon and nutmeg.

Note: You can use either a rock glass or highball glass for this cocktail. Both work equally well.

Pro tip: to mix this drink you can either do it straight in the glass like we will detail below or you can use a cocktail shaker to shake it up.

Step two

Grab your glass and fill it almost to the top with ice.

Step three

Take your whiskey as well as your jigger. Use your jigger to measure 2 oz of whiskey and pour it into your glass over the ice.

Step four

Take your eggnog as well as your jigger again. Use your jigger to measure 4 oz of eggnog and pour it into your glass with the whiskey and ice.

Pro tip: If you would like to dial up the alcoholic taste and content or dial down alcoholic taste and content you can do this by adjusting the amount of whiskey or eggnog you use. You can either use a little more eggnog to dilute the alcohol but still have a larger drink or you can simply dial the whiskey down to one or one and a half ounces.

Step Five

Now, we need to get everything mixed together well. Use your bar spoon by inserting it into your glass and giving your drink several stirs.

Step Six

Take your nutmeg or cinnamon whichever spice you’ve decided to use. Add a few dashes to the top of your drink. Then either give a stir or go straight to enjoying.
