Looking for something a little sweet but also a little spicy? Then you definitely need to make this Mexican candy shot.
What is a mexican candy shot?
A Mexican candy shot is made of four ingredients: tequila, watermelon pucker, hot sauce and sugar.
The shot is named after actual Mexican candy which comes in the form of a lollipop and is sometimes called paleta. These candies come in watermelon flavor like our shot we will be making today and is covered in chili powder. If you like the watermelon flavor, but not the spice, check out the starfucker shot.
These Mexican candies do also come in other flavors other than watermelon. So, if you wanted to make other flavor variations of this Mexican candy shot you could replace the watermelon pucker with other fruit flavored schnapps or fruit juices.
Not only is this shot super easy to make it is also a bright reddish pink color which is very festive! It is the perfect shot for Cinco de Mayo celebrations, to drink with any type of Mexican food, or any other fun get togethers and parties.
If you like this sweet and easy to make sure you may also like the chocolate cake shot, or the lemon drop shot.
How to make this drink:
This shot is super easy to make with four ingredients and an easy sugared rim.
Equipment:
Ingredients:
- 1 oz watermelon pucker (can substitute other fruit schnapps or fruit juices to make your shot a different fruit flavor)
- ½ oz tequila
- 2-3 dashes of hot sauce to taste
- Sugar
Instructions:
Step one
Before you get started you will first want to ensure that you have gathered all of your equipment and ingredients together.
Additionally, make sure that you have filled your cocktail shaker about ¾ of the way up with ice.
Step two
The first thing you’ll want to do after you’ve gathered your equipment and ingredients is to get your shot glass rimmed.
Rimming your shot glass with sugar is pretty simple. First, pour a thin layer of sugar on a saucer.
Next, in order to ensure the sugar sticks on your shot glass you want to wet the rim of your shot glass. This can be done either by rubbing an ice cube, a little water, or even a lime wedge around the rim of your shot glass.
Once the rim of your shot glass has been wet, you will put the rim face down into the sugar and rock back and forth until it is thoroughly coated in sugar.
Step three
Next, we will be combining our ingredients. Using your jigger, measure 1 oz of watermelon pucker and pour it over the ice into your cocktail shaker.
Step four
Next, measure ½ oz of tequila also with your jigger, and pour that into the cocktail shaker as well.
Step Five
Then, you will add 2 to 3 dashes of hot sauce into your cocktail shaker. We like tapatio but any of your favorite hot sauces will do.
Step six
Place the top of your cocktail shaker on and shake for several seconds until the outside of your cocktail shaker is thoroughly cold.
Step seven
Remove the top of your cocktail shaker and place your Hawthorne strainer over the top of the shaker.
Pour your liquid from your cocktail shaker into your shot glass.
You are now ready to enjoy!
