What is a Peanut Butter White Russian?

A peanut butter White Russian is a combination of heavy cream, Kahlua and peanut butter whiskey. This easy to make three ingredient cocktail is decadent, sweet and creamy. It tastes like a peanut butter infused fancy coffee.

Peanut butter whiskey is a type of whiskey based liqueur. It is a liqueur versus a liquor because the sugar and peanut flavoring added in lowers the alcohol content. It is made from a whiskey base. This liqueur has a sweet, smooth and nutty flavor.

Kahlua is a coffee flavored liqueur that was originally made in Mexico. It is a combination of arabica coffee beans, rum and sugar. It is a dark liqueur that is sweet and has a very heavy coffee flavor.

Heavy cream lens to the sweetness, thickness and creaminess of this cocktail. Heavy cream is the fat that sits on top of milk.

    When to Make This Drink:

This drink is super easy to make and with its rich decadence is well suited for a variety of occasions including:

    • drinks for dessert
    • holiday parties
    • after dinner drinks
    • formal celebrations

    Variations:

If you’re looking to change this drink up a little, here are a few ways to do so:

    • Make it with vodka. Peanut butter whiskey is most common to use in this drink. However, a regular White Russian is made with regular vodka. And there is peanut butter flavored vodka that you could use in place of the peanut butter flavored whiskey.
    • Use a different coffee liqueur. Kahlua is the most common coffee liqueur used in this drink. However, there are other types of coffee liqueur you can substitute in such as Tia Maria.
    • Stirred or shaken. This cocktail is typically served with the cream sitting on top and maybe only slightly stirred in. However, if you prefer this cocktail completely shaken or completely stirred together you can certainly serve it that way as well.
    • Substitute for the heavy cream. Though heavy cream will be the best for this cocktail, if you want to decrease the calories or use a different dairy product such as half and half or milk you certainly can. Additionally, if you want to make it dairy-free you can use a dairy-free milk alternative like oat milk.
    • Add a garnish. If you want to take this drink even more over the top, you can add a garnish. One good option is to rim your glass with creamy peanut butter and then roll it in a little salt. Alternatively you could simply smash up peanuts and rim your glass with those.

Some other vodka and kahlua cocktails are the: pink russian, white russian and black russian drink.
